This mound was discovered in 2003 by the park's culturologist Ida Stankevičiūtė. In the nearby village of Grabijolai, she recorded a folklore told by local people when she heard about a hill somewhere in the woods near the Neris and decided to check the information. After noticing clearly visible defensive ditches and embankments on the banks of the Neris River, Ida invited archaeologists. They confirmed that a hitherto unknown mound had been found, which was believed to be much larger - much of the site of this mound, affected by erosion, had sunk into the Neris River for centuries. After studying the 16th century. maps show that the mound was once surrounded by a large forest called Alcom. Does this name suggest that perhaps these places were once considered sacred
